LRD Kohima carries out coffee plantation marking ICD

Coinciding with “International Coffee Day”, department of Land Resource Kohima district organized coffee plantation at Dzüprei L. Khel Kohima village on Thursday, on the theme, “transforming lives through coffee” under PMKSY, Watershed Committee. 

Speaking to Nagaland Post at the plantation site, district project officer Kohima Dr. Menuosietuo Tseikha said the department had taken up massive plantation considering the high potential of producing coffee in the state. He informed that department has distributed and planted 10, 50, 000 saplings during the current year alone covering 470 hectares across the length and breadth of the state capital.  He added that during the year 2019, Kohima district alone produced about 1400 kgs and for the year 2020, it was expected to harvest over 5000 kgs. 

Further, department has distributed and planted over 37,07,000 lakhs coffee plants during the last four years in Kohima district alone. 

He informed that coffee brings sustainable development and does not disturb the nature since it grows under shade, adding that it was not just about coffee but gave a different story about Nagaland. 

Along with the district office staff, Watershed Committee members and coffee farmers joined in the plantation held on Thursday.
