DIMAPUR: Lirmen Senso Mungdang (LSM) has expressed deep concern over the severe damage caused to Noklangsangba Memorial School, Lirmen due to a landslide that occurred on July 19.
A press release by Lirmen Senso Mungdang stated that as per reports received from School Management Committee and local residents, the landslides has severely affected the school building and premises, while adding that the land at present site had become highly unstable with continued risk of further subsidence, posing serious threat to safety of students, staff and teachers.
It further noted that as per assessment, it indicates that it was no longer safe to continue educational activities at existing location.
Lirmen Senso Mungdang thereby noted that with academic session ongoing, students were being deprived of safe and conducive learning environment.
In view of the above, Lirmen Senso Mungdang urgently appealed State Government, Department of School Education and all concerned authorities to take immediate steps for construction of new school building at a safer location.
It also appealed NGOs, donors and well-wishers to come forward and support students and school community during this crisis.
