Taking serious note on the sealing of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) and Divisional Forest Office, Wokha by contractors on non-payment of pending pills, the Lotha Students Union (LSU) Thursday has set 15-day deadline to the responsible department and contractors in resolving the issue at the earliest.
Stating that such unpleasant circumstances which affect the academic careers of innocent students’ community would not be tolerated, the LSU warned that failure to address the issue within the stipulated time frame would compel the student body to take up own course of action in protecting the rights and interest of the student community and general public at-large.
In a press statement, LSU president Amos Odyuo and general secretary, T. Phyobemo Kikon said it had deliberated on the matter, since the issues involved the career of the students’ community and therefore, did not endorsed on adopting such “primitive and irrational method” of expressing resentment on the part of the contractors.
“The contractors are expected to take- up proper and legitimate action to address their grievances and not by way of resorting to such illogical manner of sealing the Govt. establishments particularly and educational institution”, LSU said.
LSU also reminded the government that it should have taken up the matter seriously and on priority considering the “legitimate grievances” of the aggrieved contractors.
It therefore has asked the contractors and the department to bring the issue for negotiation and acceptable settlement in the right prospective.
