LSU seeks action on underage driving in Wokha

DIMAPUR: Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) has expressed concern over the rampant use of private motor vehicles by school and college students, many of whom are underage and without valid driving licences.
In a press statement, Lotha Students’ Union president, S. Zubenthung Ngullie and general secretary, Nyanthung M. Khuvung, cautioned that such practices pose serious risks to public safety and reminded that under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, guardians, parents or vehicle owners are held accountable for offences committed by juveniles.
Lotha Students’ Union appealed to the District Administration to enforce strict checking and take necessary action against violations. It also urged parents and institutions to monitor the conduct, lifestyle and academic progress of students, particularly those living in rented accommodations without proper supervision.
Lotha Students’ Union emphasised the importance of discipline, moral integrity and vigilance for the welfare of the student community.
