DIMAPUR: Longleng Town Council (LTC) has directed the immediate removal of all encroachments and obstructions from public spaces across the town, citing concerns over public safety, sanitation and smooth traffic movement. According to an official notification, the council observed that several shopkeepers, roadside vendors, business establishments and individuals have been occupying public footpaths, walkways, roadsides, drains and areas in front of shops.
The council stated that such encroachments, including the display of goods, storage of construction materials, temporary stalls and furniture, have obstructed pedestrian movement, inconvenienced customers and disrupted traffic flow.
Referring to provisions under the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, LTC said the unauthorized occupation of public spaces adversely affects public safety, convenience and urban management. It therefore directed all concerned parties to immediately remove any goods, materials, temporary structures or other items placed on public land. The order prohibits the use of footpaths, walkways, roadsides, drains and other public spaces for the display, storage or sale of goods. It also bans the setting up of temporary stalls, kiosks and vending structures that obstruct movement, the placement of construction materials and equipment on public land, and any activity that blocks shop entrances, pedestrian pathways or the movement of vehicles and emergency services.
LTC warned that failure to comply with the directive would result in the immediate removal of encroachments, seizure of goods and materials, recovery of removal expenses and legal action, including the imposition of penalties.
