The 44th general conference of Langpangkong Tzükong Mungdang (LTM) was held under the theme “Sümedem” at Yaongyimti village on April 23.
Gracing the conference as keynote speaker, Chief Information Commissioner, I Meyionen Jamir emphasized the significance of hosting the conference with the attendance of like-minded individuals, fostering unity and cooperation, practiced by the forefathers.
Reflecting the origins of LTM, Meyionen highlighted the inaugural Langpangkong Range Conference held in 1933, which advocated for road construction and unity.
He cautioned against contemporary challenges to unity, particularly the ambition to seize leadership, which undermines the fabric of unity.
Meyionen also underscored the need for proactive measures, proposing two action plans: endorsing Dikhu Hydro Electric Project and advocating for the elevation of Tuli College to a government institution.
In his concluding remarks, Meyionen emphasized the transformative power of unity, urging the LTM to galvanize its strength for regional development.
On the occasion, the greetings message of minister for Housing & Mechanical, P Bashangmongba Chang was conveyed to the gathering by advisor of Water Resources, Tongpang Ozukum.
Also, speaking at the event, advisor of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Pangjung Jamir, praised Yaongyimti village for its strategic significance and urged continued collaboration among communities. He also suggested utilization of young and capable leaders to propel development initiatives forward.
W Chingmak Chang, Executive Council Member, expressed gratitude to the Ao community for their historical contributions and emphasized the importance of mutual learning and cooperation among tribes in the region.
Meanwhile, LTM has elected new team of office bearers for the term 2024-2027.
The new team were as follows: N. Watitoshi from Wameken as president; Limasangwa from Unger as vice president; R. Nukshi Longkumer from Yaongyimsen as general secretary;
Moatoshi from Akhoya as assistant general secretary; Rongsenshilu from Unger as finance secretary and S. Temsu Pongen from Chuchuyimlang as treasurer.
