Longsa Village Council (LVC) under Wokha district has served an ultimatum on the contractor concerned to construct side drainage in and around Longsa village before October 21, 2023.
In a letter to the chief engineer (National Highways), LVC Ponphyamo Kikon and secretary Yanpanthung Ezung have appealed to the CE to instruct the concerned contractor/firm to undertake maintenance activity wherever necessary and to immediately construct the side drainage towards the Wokha town side, as per the detailed project report specifications and as per the rules of the “right of way” before October 21.
However, in the event of any lapses on the part of the contractor/firm to undertake remedial measures within the stipulated date, LVC said the council would be forced to take compelling action starting from October 23, 2023, and the contractor/firm shall be wholly responsible for any untoward situation that may arise of any such eventuality.
Longsa Village Council expressed dismay that the contractor concerned failed to construct the side drainage in and around Longsa village.
As a result, the council said huge volume of water flows over the asphalt surface during rainfall, causing severe inconveniences to the travellers and residents living below the national highway.
It also pointed out that the recently constructed roads were also being damaged and is also damaging the roads which was constructed just recently.
Longsa Village Council said that a minor landslide has blocked a portion of the road near the village towards Kohima side for several months now, damaging the road badly.
However, no clearance and maintenance activity has been undertaken by the contractor concerned.
