The Longsa Village Council (LVC) has formally appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, requesting immediate intervention to monitor and regulate heavy vehicular traffic on the Dikhu Bailey Bridge along National Highway-202 (Mokokchung–Tuensang Road). The Council expressed serious concern over the deteriorating condition of the bridge, warning that it may collapse without timely action.
In a letter to the DC Mokokchung jointly chairman Akangjungshi Tatar and GB & secretary Repalepzuk the council described the Dikhu Bridge as a historic structure built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in the 1960s, originally designed to support a maximum load of eight tons. The bridge which serves as a vital economic link between Mokokchung and neighboring districts, is reportedly in a dilapidated state and “beyond human repairs,” according to the Council.
To prevent potential disaster and ensure commuter safety, the Council urged the district administration to deploy police personnel to monitor vehicle weight limits and restrict the movement of overloaded vehicles across the bridge. The appeal emphasized the need for proactive measures to avoid negligence and safeguard public infrastructure.
