Malaria offices in NE

Observing the mosquito menace in the northeast, Union Health & Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss has said that the Union Government was actively working to ensure malaria offices in all districts of the North Eastern States.
A PIB release said Dr. Ramadoss also emphasized on improved infrastructure for malaria control while stating that North Eastern States were a priority area for revamping of health infrastructure.
Meanwhile Dr Ramadoss also assured Meghalaya Chief Minister, Donkupar Roy who called on him on Wednesday evening that Central Government was actively considering revised guidelines for North East with regard to establishment of medical colleges keeping in mind the special needs of the region.
According to the release Dr. Ramadoss said that the relaxation regarding number of beds and patient load were under consideration for establishing medical colleges in North Eastern region. With regard to Meghayala’s request for change in selection criteria for North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, the Minister said that the proposal would be considered in the context of norms and requirements of similar autonomous institutions established by the Government of India.
