DIMAPUR: Kohima police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with an alleged sexual assault and attempted rape case reported from Kisama.
According to Kohima police PRO, the incident occurred on May 12, 2026 at around 7:30pm when the accused allegedly entered the residence of two female victims while they were having dinner and assaulted them.
Police identified the accused as one Seyienei-u, a resident of Phesama village. He has been arrested and placed under police remand, PRO said.
One of the victims reportedly sustained grievous injuries and was immediately shifted to Bethel Hospital for medical treatment.
Based on the complaint lodged at the women police station, PRO said police registered a case under Sections 62, 74, 76 and 117(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, read with Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
Police said the matter was under active investigation and urged the public to cooperate with authorities and refrain from spreading unverified information.
Meanwhile, Kohima police also responded to a fatal road accident reported at Jakhama village on May 13, 2026.
According to PRO, telephonic information was received at around 7:20 a.m. that a motorcyclist had been run over by a dumper truck at the village. Acting on the information, the police duty party intercepted the suspected dumper truck at PHQ point and took the driver into custody. The deceased motorcyclist was identified as Viboto Hibo (30), a resident of Viswema village, Z Khel.
Police said further investigation into the accident was underway and legal proceedings would follow as per law.
