One person was electrocuted at Kiusam town, Hokishe-yam-vong under Kiphire district on October 7, around 2 p.m. In a press note issued to the media, it was reported that Tsangli had gone in search of Allium tricoccum, a medicinal plant commonly known as ramp, in the afternoon but did not return home. His wife, alarmed by his absence, alerted neighbours to help search for him. Remembering two places her husband had mentioned for ramp collection, the family went in search and found him charred to death around 7 p.m. in one of the locations. Around 20 feet of scrub was burned, and the incident went unnoticed until then.
Reports suggest that Tsangli was electrocuted after coming into contact with a guy-anchor nut that touched a live primary wire supplying high-voltage electricity to five villages. The incident has been reported to the Electrical department and the local police. According to the press note, residents in the area noted occasional sparks from the electric post over the past few months, indicating possible lapses in maintenance. Residents have urged the Electrical department to conduct regular inspections of power lines, poles, and equipment to prevent similar incidents in the future.
