A 26-year-old man was feared drowned after his canoe capsized in the Doyang Reservoir on Saturday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Yilobemo Kikon, a resident of Pangti village. According to sources, the incident occurred between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. while he was rowing alone in the reservoir. Eyewitnesses, including anglers present in the area, reported seeing the canoe overturn mid-water. However, being at a distance, they were unable to ascertain the exact cause of the incident or render immediate assistance. Officials from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) along with police personnel from Doyang outpost later reached the site. SDRF sources informed that the distress call was received at around 4 p.m.
Due to delay in receiving information and fading daylight, search operations could not be initiated on Saturday. Search and rescue operations are scheduled to resume at 6 a.m. on Sunday with support expected from the NDRF.
