Judicial Magistrate First Class, Dimapur, Khrievono Seletsu, on Tuesday convicted one Md Malam Khan and sentenced him to one year imprisonment for rash and negligent driving that resulted in the death of a person last year.
On June 21, 2023, the accused, who was driving a dumper truck, was moving up towards Jharnapani through the wrong lane and hit a scooty, which was proceeding downwards in the right lane at NH 29, New Chumoukedima. As a result, the rider of the scooty namely Tingthong was seriously injured and immediately evacuated to health centre Medzhiphema. However, the victim succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
