Man gets 10 yrs RI for rape on minor

A rapist was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the District and Sessions Judge Dimapur on Thursday for raping his 11-year old step daughter. According to a statement issued by Panel Advocate, DDLSA Ms. M. Glory Sema, the learned judge Neiko Kanuo, observed that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt that the accused Mithun Prasad had raped his minor step daughter on May 2,2012. The judge observed that as the victim was none other than the accused person’s own step daughter, the “heinous demonic behaviour” that was perpetrated under life threat, after sending away two other younger children, was “unbecoming of a stepfather of 24 years.” The panel advocate said such a “matured and married person” did not deserve any leniency but maximum punishment in order to respond to the cry for justice.
