Special POCSO court Kohima has convicted and sentenced a man to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 20 years for rape of minor girl in 2020. In her judgement and order dated December 12, 2023, the principal district & sessions judge and special judge POCSO Act, Kohima, Duvelu Vero, also imposed a fine of Rs. 5000 on the convict identified as one Chita Debarman. In default of payment of the fine, the convict would undergo another simple imprisonment of three months. The convict was arrested in connection with sexual assault of a minor girl below 12 years of age at Phezoucha (New Secretariat, Kohima) colony.
The case was investigated by SI Yawao and the trial was conducted by special public prosecutor (SPP) Kohima, Sashimongla Jamir. While pronouncing the judgment in the open Court, the judge said that the prosecution case against the convict has proved beyond all reasonable doubt.
