Special Judge POSCO Peren district has sentenced a 39-year-old man to imprisonment for life for raping his step daughter, who was a minor girl of 13 years of age at the time of incident.
In a press release, public prosecutor Peren, K.Heroto Chishi informed that the judgment and order was pronounced in an open court by Special Judge POSCO Inalo Zhimomi on July 21, 2023.
The case was on the basis of the FIR lodge by the complainant (uncle of the minor girl child), who alleged that the victim (his niece) was forcibly raped by the accused (step father of the victim) on several occasions as a result the victim was pregnant.
Accordingly, a case was registered at Peren P.S case No.2/2017 U/S 376/506/ IPC R/w 4 POCSO Act. IO of the case UBI Neiketouko conducted the investigation and on completion of investigation filed a charge sheet against the accused person, who was charged for an offence punishable under section 376/506 IPC R/w 4 POCSO along with the list of prosecution witnesses.
Thereafter, during the course of trail, the prosecution led the evidence and all together six prosecution witnesses were examined before the court. On completion of all the process of trail, both the defence and prosecution submitted their gist of argument in support of their case.
On hearing the argument on both the parties, the court finally passed its verdict on July 21, 2023 and convicted the accused person identified as one Kangzangyi, resident of Nkozai colony, Peren town to life imprisonment for offences under sections 376 (2) IPC r/w 4 POCSO Act and further sentenced to pay a fine of Rs.2500 and in default of payment of fine to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six months.
