The newly constructed entrance gate of Government High School, Mangmetong was inaugurated on Saturday, by senior administrative officer of Justice & Law department, Chuba Ozukum.
While speaking at the inaugural function, Ozukum stated that for many people, a gate is just a gate, but in the Naga context, it bears great significance for, he said, it symbolises ‘authority’.
Ozukum opined that Mangmetong was very fortunate to have such an educational institution from where many villagers have entered and walked out to be prominent leaders in different walks of life. He wished for the school to have many more entering through the newly inaugurated gate and leaving as prosperous individuals. To accomplish this vision he asked the teaching faculty to teach their students to be ‘the best of the best’ and not just ‘to do well’.
Earlier, while delivering the welcome note, head master I. Toshi Kichu stated that the school was fortunate to have maintained a cent per cent HSLC pass out rate since 2014. A short speech was also delivered by village council chairman, Yudang Imchen. A cultural dance was presented by the students.
The gate was dedicated by MBA pastor I. Lolen Imchen and the benediction was said by retired teacher Tekatemjen Pongen. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mendang Imchen.
