Manipur awaits new chapter of unity, stability under Modi and Shah: Biren

CorrespondentIMPHAL, Aug 5

Former Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh who congratulated Amit Shah on becoming the longest serving Union home minister, on Tuesday said “a new chapter of unity, stability and development awaits Manipur” under the leadership of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
With 2,258 days in office, Amit Shah has become the longest-serving Union home minister, surpassing the previous record held by BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani. He assumed the office in the second term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government on May 30, 2019.
Congratulating Shah on the historic milestone of becoming the longest serving union home minister in the country, former Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh in a post on Facebook, said “a grateful salute to Shri Amit Shah Ji on a historic milestone.”
He wrote that Amit Shah has become the longest serving Union home minister in the history of independent India. His tenure has now surpassed that of stalwarts like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and LK Advani.
“This is not just a record. It is a reflection of trust, vision and unmatched commitment to the nation,” the post read.
In the context of Manipur, Singh wrote “this journey has been deeply meaningful while claiming that the state received tireless support from Shah in the campaign to eradicate drugs from the state.
Highlighting some of the initiatives the Union minister had taken up for the state of Manipur, the former chief minister wrote that it was under his (Amit Shah’s) leadership that the Manipur People’s Army (the armed wing of proscribed United National Liberation Front-UNLF), has agreed to come to the table for the first time. The outfit has long been unwilling to engage in peace talks, he wrote.
Singh also said under Shah’s leadership, talks with the militant outfit Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) began and opened “new possibilities for reconciliation.”
More insurgents have laid down arms and joined the mainstream, inspired by growing trust in the peace process, he wrote.
The war on drugs campaign launched by the Manipur government also got full support from the Union home minister, he stated.
“Our War on Drugs received tireless support from Hon’ble HM Shri Amit Shah ji, helping us strike harder against narco-terrorism,” he wrote in the post on his official Facebook page.
The former chief minister continued that Shah’s “decision to fence the entire northeast stretch of the Indo-Myanmar border is a historic step” and that work has already begun on the ground. The initiative addressed a long pending demand of the people of Manipur and the region, he claimed. On the issue of illegal immigration, he (the Union home minister) has been working tirelessly “to help us protect our cultural and demographic identity.”
Shah has shown what true leadership means while praising him as strategic, courageous and compassionate and calling him as “modern Chanakya” who has shaped not just policies but destinies.
Singh further wrote under the leadership of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, “I believe a new chapter of unity, stability and development awaits Manipur.”
