Manipur beat Colombia to lift Polo trophy

Manipur lifted the 15th Manipur Polo International 2025 trophy with a convincing 8–5 win over Colombia in the final played at Imphal’s Mapa Kanejibung on Saturday.
The 15th edition of the Manipur Polo International marked its return after a two-year hiatus. The tournament was organized as part of the Manipur Sangai Festival.
In the final, India Polo Team-B (Manipur) emerged victorious, securing the championship with an 8–5 win over Colombia.
Organized by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association (MHRPA), the tournament kicked off on November 22 at the historic Mapa Kanejibung, the world’s oldest active polo ground. Five teams participated: the United States, Colombia, India-A, India-C (Chhattisgarh), and India-B (Manipur).
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla graced the closing ceremony of the international tournament held at the historic polo ground.
The Governor, accompanied by his wife, witnessed the thrilling final match of the men’s international polo event.
He also released the souvenir of the 15th Manipur Polo International 2025. The match began with the Governor throwing in the polo ball, and the game drew an enthusiastic audience while highlighting the strong talent and competitive spirit of the players.
The participation of international teams added to the significance of the tournament. The matches also reflected Manipur’s long equestrian tradition and its recognized place as the birthplace of modern polo.
Following the match, the Governor and his wife distributed prizes to the winners and participants, appreciating their skill, sportsmanship, and dedication. The Governor then formally declared the tournament closed.
