Amid the deteriorating situation, Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired a high-level security meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal on Thursday evening. The meeting reviewed the killings along the IT Road and the prevailing security situation in the affected areas.
According to reports, the meeting decided that stringent action would be taken against any individual, irrespective of community, found in possession of illegal arms and weapons.
It also decided to initiate legal action against cadres of armed groups under the Suspension of Operations agreement or those engaged in peace talks with the government if they were found carrying weapons outside their designated camps.
The killings have heightened concerns over renewed violence in Manipur’s hill districts, where tensions between Naga and Kuki communities have remained fragile following the recent clashes.
