Manipur CM, deputy CMs meet Amit Shah in Delhi

CorrespondentIMPHAL, FEB 22:

Amid the speculation of cabinet expansion, Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, who is in the national capital, on Sunday called on Union home minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi.
This is the first time Khemchand met the Union home minister after he took over as the state’s chief minister on February 4 last.
Singh was accompanied by his two deputy chief ministers – Losii Dikho of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), and Nemcha Kipgen of the BJP.
The three leaders discussed steps to be taken up by the new government to remove the barriers between different communities with the Union home minister, stated a DIPR release late on Sunday.
Ever since the BJP-led coalition was installed, the state government has taken up many outreach programmes with an aim to bring peace and harmony.
Shah assured the three leaders all possible help from the central government to bring peace and normalcy in the state.
The Union home minister further assured the chief minister that all necessary help will be provided by the centre for the overall development and progress of Manipur.
Shah directed the chief minister to give utmost importance to the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and assured all possible help in this task.
The release, however, mentioned nothing about the pending distribution of portfolios among the ministers and expansion of the council of ministers.
Singh was sworn-in as the chief minister of the state after the Centre revoked the President’s Rule on February 4. Four cabinet ministers including the two deputy chief ministers also took oath on the same day.
Even after 19 days since the installation of the new popular government, the chief minister neither distributed portfolios to his ministers nor expanded his council of ministers for reasons best known to him (chief minister) and BJP central leaders.
Manipur can have 12 ministers, including the chief minister, as per the provisions of the 10th schedule of the Indian constitution. Meanwhile, chief minister Y Khemchand Singh, after the meeting with the Union home minister wrote on social media platforms, “We had a detailed and constructive discussion on key issues concerning Manipur, including measures for peace, stability, rehabilitation and progress.”
The Union home minister conveyed his firm assurance that the Union government will extend every possible assistance to ensure the early resettlement and rehabilitation of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
“On behalf of the people of Manipur, I express my sincere gratitude to Hon’ble HM for his continued support, guidance, and commitment towards the welfare of our State,” he added in the post.
