IMPHAL, Oct 8 (NPN): Union home minister Amit Shah assured Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh that he would visit the strife-torn Manipur during a meeting in New Delhi on Thursday.
Singh, who travelled to New Delhi on Wednesday evening reportedly after he was asked to visit the national capital, called on Union home minister Amit Shah at his Delhi official residence late Thursday afternoon.
During today’s audience, the chief minister reiterated his invitation to Amit Shah to visit the state.
“Accepting the invitation graciously, the Hon’ble Home Minister assured me that he will visit the State in this month,” chief minister Y Khemchand Singh stated in a post on his social media handles after the meeting.
Notably, the chief minister, during his audience with the Union home minister on August 27 last, had invited Shah to visit the state, and in response, Shah had also (according to a CMO statement) agreed to visit the state by the first week of October (current month) to lay the foundation stone for a medical college in the Naga-majority Senapati district.
The CMO release stated that the chief minister apprised the Union home minister of the measures taken up by the state government for restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
Singh informed the Union home minister that the state government has succeeded in resuming the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus service, which has brought much-needed relief to the common people.
He also urged the Union home minister to help the state to tide over the various issues being faced by the state and sought continued support from the Central government, the CMO stated.
Shah gave a patient hearing to the chief minister and assured all support in bringing peace and progress and in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Manipur.
The home minister also appreciated the sustained efforts of the state government to bring peace and normalcy in the state, it added.
The chief minister left Imphal for New Delhi on Wednesday evening amid reports of BJP central leaders’ intervention to resolve the existing rift between his two deputy chief ministers.
Deputy chief minister Nemcha Kipgen also dashed to the national capital on Wednesday evening. However, deputy chief minister Losii Dikho was in Imphal on the day.
The latest development on whether he dashed to Delhi or not could not be confirmed at the time of filing this report.
A media report in Imphal reported that the chief minister and the two deputy chief ministers – Losii Dikho and Nemcha Kipgen – are likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person together during their stay in Delhi.
The CMO further informed that the chief minister also called on Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari and Union youth affairs and sports minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya at their official residences at New Delhi.
During the meeting with Gadkari, the chief minister urged him to start the construction work of the Shangshak-Tengnoupal highway and requested him to sanction the proposed elevated highway project in Imphal city.
He also urged the Union minister to ensure the completion of the ongoing works of NH-37 and NH-2 during the working season to improve connectivity and ease the hardships faced by the people.
It was followed by another round of meeting with the Union YAS minister who appreciated the performance of Manipuri players in the just concluded Asian Games at Aichi-Nagoya in Japan.
The Union sports minister assured visiting Manipur shortly to oversee the various works of the Union sports ministry in the state. He will also visit the National Sports University (NSU) in Imphal, the CMO stated.
