Manipur Cong leader visits persons injured in Ukhrul gunfights

Correspondent

Opposition Manipur Congress leader Keisham Meghachandra on Thursday visited injured persons of the recent gun violence incidents in Ukhrul currently being treated at RIMS hospital, Imphal.
During the visit, other state Congress leaders like Woungpam Raikhan, T Loken Singh, Md Wahidur Rahaman, N Helendro Singh, and N Bupenda Meitei accompanied him.
While enquiring the conditions of the injured persons, the Congress Legislator Party (CLP) leader in the Manipur Assembly expressed his strong concern over the escalating tensions in the district where Tangkhul Naga tribe and Kuki tribes were in conflict.
The Congress leaders also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and for strength to their families during this difficult time.
“Please stay strong, we are all with you,” Meghachandra consoled the injured persons and their families.
Talking to the reporters on the sideline of the visit, the CLP leader said that the state government must take full responsibility for this unfortunate incident.
He slammed the government while alleging that the government remained silent despite the seriousness of the communal incidents happening in Ukhrul district.
“It is deeply concerning that the government remains silent on such a serious communal incident. Silence in the face of violence only increases fear and mistrust among the people,” he said.
He demanded immediate action and justice for the victims while stressing concrete steps to be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
He also asserted that if the different communities and tribes living in the state in harmony for centuries thought of their own community or tribe only, the state would be devastated.
He also appealed to the state and the Central government to put its best efforts to resolve the crisis that has been besieging the state. Notably, some of the critically injured persons in the recent series of gunfights in Litan area of Ukhrul district are currently being treated at RIMS hospital, Imphal.
