Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been given additional charge of Governor of Nagaland with effect from Saturday.
According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan press communiqué Bhalla’s appointment followed the demise of Nagaland Governor La Ganesan at Chennai on August 14,2025.
According to the communiqué Bhalla is to discharge the functions of the Governor of Nagaland, in addition to his own duties as Manipur governor
Bhalla is a 1984-batch IAS officer from the Assam–Meghalaya cadre.
He also served as the Union Home Secretary of India, holding this post from August 22, 2019 until his retirement on August 22, 2024.
He was sworn in as Manipur governor on January 3, 2025 before President’s Rule was imposed on February 13, 2025.
