DIMAPUR: Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, visited the famed Dzukou Valley on Tuesday, where he was accorded a traditional welcome at Viswema en route.
According to DIPR report, the Governor was received by DC Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, SP Kohima, Krodi Rhetso, officials, office bearers of the Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO), and members of the Viswema Village Council. He later proceeded to the valley accompanied by administrative officers, medical staff, police personnel and tourist guides, with the district administration and security agencies ensuring smooth conduct of the visit.
Welcoming the Governor, SAPO president Er. Tepul Hopovi described the visit as a symbolic convergence of stewardship and landscape. He highlighted Dzukou Valley’s ecological significance, noting that the Southern Angami people have served as its traditional custodians since time immemorial. He emphasised that the valley is a treasured natural heritage of Nagaland belonging to all nature lovers, and called for collective efforts to protect, preserve and promote its biodiversity.
Hopovi further urged that Dzukou should serve as a model for climate resilient, community led conservation, where indigenous knowledge and government initiatives work together to safeguard the environment for future generations. He invited the Governor to experience the valley’s pristine landscape, unpolluted environment and the famed Dzukou Lily, symbolising its unique ecological wealth.
As a mark of respect, SAPO presented the Governor with a traditional memento. The organisation also expressed gratitude to the Government of Nagaland, particularly the DC, SP and officials involved, for coordinating and facilitating the successful visit.
