IMPHAL, Jul 26 (NPN): Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Saturday urged the youth to dedicate themselves to serving the nation, highlighting the state’s rich legacy of contributing to the Indian Armed Forces.
Like the rest of the country, Manipur observed Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War. The state-level function was held at the auditorium of the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Imphal, where tributes were paid to the courage, sacrifice and unwavering dedication of the soldiers who defended the nation’s sovereignty.
Governor Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh led the state in paying heartfelt homage to the Kargil heroes.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said the people of Manipur have a proud legacy of patriotism through their service in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Assam Rifles and Central Armed Police Forces.
“Their contribution is unquestionable, and it is always heartening to see people from Manipur serving in these elite security forces,” he said. Paying tribute to the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces, Bhalla said they had, across generations, defended the nation against external aggression with unwavering courage and selfless devotion.
Recalling the valour of the Kargil heroes, he also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the armed forces in safeguarding India’s sovereignty, including their recent role in Operation Sindoor.
“Their service continues to inspire the nation,” he said. The Governor said Kargil Vijay Diwas remains an enduring symbol of patriotism, sacrifice and national pride, and urged everyone to honour the martyrs and support their families.
Emphasising that national security is a collective responsibility, he called upon citizens to strengthen peace, harmony and national integration as India moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said India’s victory in the Kargil War was made possible by the courage, valour and unwavering determination of the Indian Armed Forces. He said Indian soldiers displayed exemplary courage, steadfast resolve and an unflinching commitment to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity during the conflict.
The Chief Minister appealed to the people of Manipur to work together with a sense of shared responsibility and collective commitment towards building a stronger and more developed nation.
State Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Arts and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, MLAs, Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, senior civil and police officials, and top officers of the Central security forces attended the function.
