Manipur Naga doctors condemn assault of doctor from Nagaland

CorrespondentIMPHAL, Feb 26:

All Naga Doctors’ Forum, Manipur (ANDFM) strongly condemned the alleged incident of stalking, racial abuse, and physical assault against a third-year resident doctor from Nagaland at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Gorakhpur.
The forum, in a statement, alleged that the young doctor was allegedly followed for more than one and a half kilometres, subjected to obscene remarks and racial slurs targeting her Northeastern identity, and physically assaulted near Gate No. 2 of the institute.
The ANDFM described the incident as deeply disturbing and unacceptable, stating that such acts violate the dignity, equality, and safety guaranteed under the Constitution of India.
It further expressed unwavering solidarity with the victim, stating that doctors across the country dedicate their lives to serving humanity irrespective of region, race, religion, or ethnicity and termed it unfortunate that a medical professional committed to patient care had to face hostility and violence.
The forum urged the concerned authorities to conduct a swift, impartial, and transparent investigation, identify and arrest the perpetrators at the earliest, and initiate strict legal action under relevant provisions addressing racial discrimination and assault against women.
It also called for strengthening security measures within and around the campus to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
Emphasizing that racial discrimination and gender-based violence have no place in a civilized society, the ANDFM demanded that institutions of national importance must remain safe spaces for all, particularly for women and professionals from diverse communities.
The forum also reiterated its demand for justice and accountability and affirmed its stand against racism, violence, and discrimination in any form.
