Manipuri Cabin Crew Member Among Those Aboard Crashed Air India Flight

Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma, a native of Thoubal, Manipur, was part of the cabin crew on Air India flight AI171, which tragically crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport on its way to London.

As authorities work to confirm details about Sharma’s fate, family members and Manipur government officials remain anxious for updates.

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and former Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed deep sorrow over the incident. Bhalla extended prayers for the recovery of any survivors, while Singh described the tragedy as heartbreaking, noting that it had shaken the entire nation.

Chief Ministers from all northeastern states also voiced their grief over the disaster. The London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people—including 10 cabin crew—crashed just minutes after departure. Flight operations at Ahmedabad airport were briefly suspended but resumed after a few hours.

As investigations continue, government agencies and local officials remain engaged in response efforts, with an outpouring of condolences from across the country.
