Manjhi stresses development push in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, MAY 20 (NPN): Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Jitan Ram Manjhi on Wednesday stressed the need for effective implementation of Central welfare and developmental schemes in Nagaland and the North East, while reviewing the status of various Central programmes with officials of Longleng district at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chümoukedima.
According to a DIPR report, during the meeting, officials from various departments presented reports on ongoing projects, achievements, challenges and areas requiring further support and coordination. The Union Minister reviewed developmental activities and discussed the implementation status of various Government of India schemes and programmes in the district.
Addressing the gathering, Manjhi stressed effective implementation of MSME-related initiatives and urged officials to work collectively for the welfare and economic development of the people.
The visiting Central team informed that the review was being conducted as per the directives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assess the ground realities and developmental needs of the district.
The team stated that findings, feedback and reports gathered during the visit would be compiled and submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office and concerned Union ministries for necessary action.
MLA and chairman DPDB Longleng, A. Pongshi Phom, appreciated the Government of India for implementing people-centric welfare schemes and developmental programmes across the country.
He stated that initiatives in agriculture, health, education, rural development, solar energy, industries, electricity, social security and welfare sectors were significantly improving the living standards of the people.
Highlighting centrally sponsored schemes, the MLA said the department of industries and commerce in Longleng district was playing an important role in empowering youth through self-employment opportunities. He added that schemes such as Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) were helping entrepreneurs establish businesses and generate employment.
Pongshi also appreciated the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative launched by the State government in August 2022, stating that it had supported private enterprises and transformed lives in rural areas.
During the interaction, officials were asked to provide detailed information on the implementation and present status of centrally sponsored schemes in Longleng district. Discussions were also held on whether Longleng falls under the Aspirational District Programme.
Special emphasis was laid on the National Oil Palm Mission, with the visiting team enquiring about plantation activities and benefits extended to farmers and local communities.
After the review meeting, Manjhi appreciated the efforts of the district administration and departments for implementing welfare schemes and encouraged officials to continue working with dedication to ensure benefits reached the grassroots level.
He also stressed coordination among departments for timely implementation of developmental projects and assured continued support from the Union government and his ministry for the overall development of Longleng district.
Later, the Minister also held a review meeting with state officers of National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Coir Board and MSME-DFO under the Ministry of MSME at the Police Guest House.
The meeting was chaired by deputy commissioner and vice-chairman DPDB Longleng, W. Manpai Phom.
