The new Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, an all-electric SUV, was unveiled at a grand launch event on Thursday at NEXA, Progressive Motors, Dimapur, Darogapathar. The launch marked the debut of the e Vitara in Dimapur, bringing the brand’s first electric SUV to the region. The programme was graced by Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI), president, Dr. Khekugha Muru as the chief guest and SBI Hornbill Branch, Dimapur, Manager, Purwati Longkumer as the guest of honour.
Speaking at the launch, chief guest, Dr. Khekugha Muru, spoke on the importance of electric mobility, he said the shift from conventional fuels such as diesel and petrol to electric vehicles is inevitable and not reversible. While traditional fuels may continue to power industries, he noted that the future of mobility will largely be electric.
Referring to concerns over global warming and rising pollution levels, he cited reports that air quality in cities like Dimapur and Kohima has at times crossed AQI levels of 100 and 150.
He further called on the state government and stakeholders that e-mobility has arrived and infrastructure is now needed. He said developing recharge stations through micro-financing could generate employment, support youth and create a sustainable ecosystem for mobility and the local economy.
Guest of honour, Purwati Longkumer stated that innovation in mobility must be supported by innovation in financing. He noted that the transition to electric vehicles requires not only advanced engineering but also accessible and flexible financial solutions for dealers investing in infrastructure, as well as for customers and investors.
Referring to a 30 per cent subsidy provided by the Government of India under the relevant scheme, he encouraged interested individuals to set up charging points, stating that it is the need of the hour and that EV products are cost-effective.
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is offered in three variants including Delta, Zeta and Alpha (Alpha variant is also available in dual tone finishes at a slightly higher cost) and comes with two battery options: a 49 kWh pack and a larger 61 kWh pack. The SUV is equipped with modern features including Integrated Digital Display (10.1” digital instrument cluster and 10.25” infotainment touch screen), wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, Advanced Diver Assistant (Level 2 ADAS), along with comfort and tech features designed for urban and long distance driving. The SUV has received a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating and comes equipped with seven airbags as standard. The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara comes with a 7.4 kW AC charger and a 3.3 kW portable charger along with free installation.
The e Vitara starts at around Rs 15.99 lakh, for the Delta variant, Rs 17.49 lakh for the Zeta, and Rs 19.79 lakh for the Alpha and Alpha (dual Tone) for Rs 19.99 lakh. Customers also have the option of a Battery as a Service (BaaS) model, which reduces upfront cost with battery rental.
