Renowned boxer MC Mary Kom, on Wednesday, extended support to children from internally displaced persons (IDP) families residing at Lanboikhongnangkhong in Imphal West district, assuring training opportunities to IDP children interested in boxing at her boxing academy.
MC Mary Kom visited the relief camp where the IDPs were staging a protest calling for their resettlement.
During her visit to the protest site organized by COCOMI and IDPs, Mary Kom distributed blankets as humanitarian assistance amid the ongoing displacement situation.
She said the support was a gesture of solidarity and encouragement, especially during difficult times, adding that even small help can bring hope to affected families.
Mary Kom assured that IDP children with an interest in boxing would be given free training at her academy, emphasising that sports can play a vital role in healing, discipline and confidence-building. She also appealed for continued collective support to ensure that displaced families are rehabilitated with dignity.
COCOMI women wing convenor RK Tharaksa lauded Mary Kom’s gesture, stating that her visit and assistance on December 17 brought emotional strength and encouragement to the IDPs.
The IDPs and COCOMI expressed heartfelt gratitude for her support, describing it as a meaningful act of compassion during a time of hardship.
