Nagaland mass rally against hit-and-run incident in Longleng

DIMAPUR, OCT 27 (NPN)

Phom People’s Council (PPC), Phomla Hoichem (PH) and Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) on Monday jointly organised a mass rally of solidarity in connection with the hit-and-run incident that claimed the lives of two civilians between Pongo Village and Longleng on October 25, 2025.
PCC through its media cell stated that the rally was organised to demand justice for the victims—late T. Anba Phom and late S. Chingloi Phom, both from Auching village.
Over 1,000 people from the Phom community including school students and members of various communities residing in Longleng district—irrespective of tribe or affiliation—participated in the rally expressing unity, grief, and concern over the unfortunate incident.
In his address, PPC president, Y. B. Angam Phom, expressed deep concern over the incident and said that such incidents occurring within the district and across the state have become increasingly frequent.
PCC president said it was the collective responsibility of the administration, law enforcement agencies, and all stakeholders to address these issues with utmost seriousness.
Reaffirming PPC’s commitment to stand firm and sincere until justice was delivered, Phom assured the full support of the council in pursuing the case to its rightful conclusion.
PH president, A. Ainyu Phom, also expressed deep sorrow over the loss and the pain endured by families—especially mothers—left without their loved ones. PH president demanded that the case be handled with transparency, accountability, and integrity. She also called upon the investigating officer to carry out the investigation carefully and without any form of manipulation.
In his speech, PSC president, C. Sham-e Phom, lamented that the two innocent lives lost in the tragic hit-and-run were the future of the community—full of ambition, promise, and life.
He stressed that no family should ever have to endure such pain, nor any community be witness to such injustice. PSC president also called for a thorough and transparent investigation, accountability under the law, and stronger measures to ensure that no other family faces such a tragedy in the future.
Meanwhile, the civil society organisations (CSOs) and the general public have collectively resolved to restrict the movement of all heavy vehicles and army/military convoys along the route until the case was resolved and justice delivered. The program concluded with the resounding slogan “We Demand Justice.”

ENSF flays hit-and-run, drone strike: Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has “unequivocally” condemned the hit-and-run incident allegedly involving an Assam Rifles vehicle that occurred on October 25, 2025 in Longleng which resulted in the death of two innocent young men.
ENSF through its media cell said Assam Rifles highly regarded as the “Friends of the hill people” and entrusted with the security and well-being of the people, appeared to have involved the incident.
“This act of negligence and a total disregard for human life demonstrates the exact opposite,” ENSF stated.
Further, the federation said the incident represented a gross violation of human rights and a profound betrayal of public trust placed in India’s security forces.
Meanwhile, ENSF also condemned drone attack allegedly perpetrated by the Indian security forces on civilian area at Khanmoi village (Konyak Naga Village) on October 20, 2025.
ENSF sad “this cowardly and indiscriminate assault” claimed the lives of an innocent six-year-old and a young man serving as the joint secretary of Khanmoi Village Students’ Union ad grievously injured five others. “This is not merely an accident; it is a crime that has left our community shaken and grief-stricken,” ENSF stated.
Meanwhile, ENSF affirmed solidarity with the families of the victims and demand justice for the lives lost.
