‘Maternal Wellbeing’, conference-cum- workshop at Dr. Belho’s Clinic

A conference cum workshop on Maternal Wellbeing took place at Dr. Belho’s Clinic and Children’s Hospital on Saturday, aiming to enhance awareness and preparedness for maternal health, particularly focusing on high-risk pregnancies and first-time mothers.


Consulting gynecologist and Proprietor, Dr. Mhasiseno T. Belho conducted a session on antenatal care and birthing, emphasizing the importance of hygiene during pregnancy. She highlighted the necessity of essential scanning tests, bringing to attention of actual cases and complications due to neglected\presumptive caring method and the significance of pregnancy immunization. Dr. Belho also stressed the disclosure of prior family health history for effective diagnosis of potential risks and differentiated between minor and significant ailments.


Pediatrician, Dr. Temjenpokba Longkumer, discussed on newborn care and breastfeeding. He addressed the FDA risk categories of medicines relevant during breastfeeding and emphasized safe vitamin intake. Dr. Longkumer also raised awareness about pregnancy infections and their potential effects, alongside proper breast care techniques for breastfeeding mothers. He outlined the benefits of breastfeeding and methods to identify situations where breastfeeding may not be suitable.


The session on diet during pregnancy was led by Dietician Iliza Chishi, who illuminated the adverse consequences of maternal malnutrition on both mother and fetus, including anemia, hemorrhage, preterm birth, and various complications. She provided guidelines on recommended weight gain based on body mass index and stressed the importance of micronutrients for maternal health.


Physiotherapist Dr. Rahul Sharma conducted a demonstration and discussion on pregnancy exercises, concluding with an interactive session that engaged participants in practical exercises.


Earlier, the introductory and moderation of the session was led by Admin, at Dr Belho’s, Visivono Peseyie. The one day session culminated with interactive sessions to address critical aspects of maternal wellbeing with help of healthcare professionals.
