MAV movement regulated on Tsiedukhru stretch

DIMAPUR, OCT 9 (NPN)

In view of recent assessments by road safety and geotechnical experts indicating highly fragile slope conditions, Commissioner of Police Dimapur has informed that the movement of Multi-Axle Vehicles (MAVs) along the Tsiedukhru (Pagala Pahar) stretch of NH-29 will be regulated with immediate effect until conditions stabilise.
In an advisory, CP said that the following restrictions will apply where movement of MAVs will be permitted only at specific intervals during daylight hours between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Vehicles must move in small, regulated intervals under the direct supervision of Traffic Police. Maximum speed for MAVs in this section must not exceed 20 kmph.
Adequate spacing should be maintained between vehicles to minimise cumulative ground vibration.
Overloaded multi-axle trucks are strictly prohibited from using the Tsiedukhru stretch.
Axle loads and payloads will be capped below legal limits, with preference given to lighter multi-axle categories.
It said that NHIDCL and Transport department will assist Traffic police in identifying and restricting overloaded vehicles. No MAV weighing more than 30 tonnes (Gross Vehicle Weight) will be permitted passage through Tsiedukhru stretch.
NHIDCL will ensure placement of adequate machinery, operators and support staff near the affected stretch to promptly clear any blockages caused by vehicle breakdowns or landslides/mudslides.
Traffic movement will be immediately suspended if officials on site detect any signs of slope distress or fresh movement.
Drivers using the Tsiedukhru stretch of NH-29 have been advised to exercise extreme caution and remain alert for debris or sudden rockfall. MAV operators have been urged to cooperate fully with the ground officials enforcing the safety measures.
