DIMAPUR, AUG 7 (NPN): Miles Bronson Residential School (MBRS), Borjhar, is hosting the CBSE Cluster-I Basketball Tournament 2026 from August 7 to 9, bringing together young basketball players from across the CBSE Guwahati Region.
The tournament was formally inaugurated on August 7 at the school’s main playground by Regional Officer, CBSE Regional Office, Panjabari, Guwahati, Sandeep Tandon who attended the event as the chief guest.
The three-day championship features competitions in the Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 boys’ and girls’ categories. A total of 58 CBSE-affiliated schools are participating, with 125 teams competing across six divisions, making it one of the largest CBSE inter-school basketball tournaments in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Tandon commended the host school for its arrangements and highlighted the role of sports in fostering discipline, leadership, teamwork and overall personality development. He urged participants to compete with integrity, determination and true sportsmanship.
Founder and Principal of MBRS, Dr. Nripen Kumar Dutta, welcomed the participating schools, players, coaches, officials and guests, expressing pride in hosting the prestigious event. He reaffirmed the school’s commitment to holistic education by giving equal emphasis to academics and sports, and said the tournament would promote friendship, unity and healthy competition among students.
The inaugural ceremony featured a colourful march-past by participating teams, the athletes’ oath, cultural performances showcasing Assam’s rich heritage, and a marching band display by the MBRS School Marching Band.
The tournament will conclude on August 9, with teams competing for top honours and qualification to the next stage of the CBSE National Basketball Championship.
