Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), while appreciating the ongoing clearing of clogged drains in Mokokchung town, has opined that “developing a real, proper and sustainable urban drainage system would require a lot of meticulous planning, technical expertise, proper coordination, adequate funding and visionary leadership”.
In a press release, MCCI president, Tsukti Longkumer and general secretary, Limalenden Longkumer, thanked the Mokokchung district administration, the Mokokchung Municipal Council, the PWD, UDO, SDRF and all others involved in clearing the drainage.
MCCI, however, opined that “it would have much better served the purpose had the authorities in collaboration, if need be, with the people represented by the mass based organizations garnered adequate funds from the government or other sources for the improvement and mitigation of drainage system in the town”.
MCCI has also requested the shop owners of businesses located along the work sites as well as customers and the public in general to bear with the minor inconveniences caused by the ongoing works and to render cooperation to the authorities concerned.
