Amid heightened concerns over the spillover of evicted persons from Assam into Nagaland, the Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) has taken a firm stance, issuing strict directives to its community members and declaring zero tolerance toward any act that undermines the state’s demographic integrity.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, MCD working president Ahidur Rahman informed that the council convened an emergency meeting with Muslim leaders and local residents on Sunday in response to reports of displaced individuals attempting to enter Niuland and adjoining areas through the vulnerable border.
He also emphasized the council’s unwavering resolve to stand in solidarity with the people of Nagaland and extend full support to the government’s efforts to curb illegal infiltration.
In addition to the general advisory issued to members of the Muslim community residing in Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima districts, Rahman said that Sunday’s meeting unanimously adopted three resolutions: (i) Muslim youth volunteers will actively assist local Naga volunteers stationed in checkpoints and localities to identify and report any suspicious or unauthorised entries; (ii) Any individual or household found harbouring displaced persons from Assam without proper documents will be dealt with sternly and expelled from Nagaland and (iii) All members of the Muslim community must ensure possession of valid Inner Line Permits (ILPs) and cooperate fully with authorities during any verification exercise.
He also clarified that the issue of infiltration was a matter of collective concern within the community and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to safeguarding peace and preserving the demographic integrity of the region. He asserted that any individual who may have entered Niuland in recent days without proper authorization would be identified and promptly sent back.
While expressing full confidence in the state government’s ongoing measures, Rahman emphasized that the community was proactively taking its own steps and stood ready to extend full cooperation to the government whenever officially called upon.
“Our efforts are indirectly aiding the state authorities. But if the government calls upon us, we will stand by them, in both words and actions,” he stated.
MCD’s reaffirmation comes amid growing civil society concerns and stepped-up vigilance by authorities in border districts like Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima.
