MDBA demands early construction of Mon District Court building

Mon District Bar Association (MDBA) has demanded construction of the District Court building at Mon at the earliest. The appeal was made through a representation to advisor, Law & Justice and SCERT, H. Chuba Chang who unveiled the foundation stone of the District Court Complex and inaugurated the Judicial Officer’s Quarter at Mon, Friday. (Read more on p-3)
MDBA president Mannon Konyak and general secretary Moba Konyak contended that Mon district was one of the oldest districts in Nagaland, was home to the tribe with the largest population and comprised nine Assembly constituencies.
MDBA said the current District Court building constructed in 1988 was on the verge of collapse since it was very old and in a decaying stage. Hence, it pointed out that the building could not house the court establishment properly.
Further, mentioning that it had no bar room for advocates, no judges’ chamber, no parking space, no sitting space for clients and no toilets, the association said courts could not function smoothly in summer due to leakage of water inside the court room.
As the people of Mon were conscious of their rights and duties and approached the court seeking justice, MDBA stressed construction of the building at the earliest by rendering them basic services.
Considering the dignity of the court, MDBA emphasised that the quality of court infrastructure should not be compromised, then only citizens would have faith in the judiciary. It called for starting construction of the court building at the earliest .
