The Mokokchung District GBs Association (MDGBA) held its general meeting on Thursday at the MDGBA hall, Mokokchung. The meeting was graced by EAC Mokokchung, Vitolu as the special guest on behalf of Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung Thsuvisie Phoji.
Speaking at the meeting, the EAC said that GBs are the legacy of the British in India. He also said that the British India were satisfied with the GB as they were sincere, obedient and dedicated in their service. The EAC also highlighted the main functions of the GBs that included revenue collection, having judiciary and executive powers besides being a rural policeman.
Vitolu goes on to add that GBs shoulder great responsibilities as they being a representative of the state government. The EAC also solicited the same co-operation and coordination from the GBs in the future.
Earlier in the programme, the Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong in his brief exhortation, acknowledged the services rendered by the GBs to the society. He said that the GBs should strive towards resolving the Naga issue as they have been doing so in the past.
Meanwhile, the general meeting on Thursday elected a new team of office bearers for the tenure 2025-2030. The new team will be led by Along Jamir (Tongdentsuyong ward Mkg) as president (re-elected), Imtisanen (Chuchuyimpang) as vice president, Imlitemsu (Penli ward) as general secretary (re-elected) and other members.
