The inaugural programme of ‘Workshop on Legal Literacy Clubs in Schools’, was organized by the Mokokchung
District Legal Services Authorithy (MDLSA) on Thursday, at ADC Conference Hall, under the aegis of Nagaland State Legal Services
Authority (NSLSA). While delivering the keynote address, MDLSA Chairman, Khape Koza, stated that justice was the corner stone and fundamental goal of every civilized nation. He said that the chief purpose of law was justice which it reflects in an orderly advancement of a given society. He added that the lack of knowledge and sheer ignorance of their basic legal rights and civil liberties leads to social problems of child labour, human trafficking, etc. Therefore, he said that it was absolutely necessary to create legal awareness amongst the people.
Khape Koza stated that that was where the importance of Legal Literacy clubs in schools and colleges played a vital part in imparting help to strenthen the capacity of youth to effectively advocate for human rights and access to justice for a vulnerable population. The resource persons of the workshop were, NSLSA Project-in-incharge, Legal Literacy Club(LLC), Temsu Walling who spoke on the topics of ‘Introduction on LLC’, ‘Structure of LLC’ & ‘Functions and activities of LLC’ while NSLSA Project Assistant, LLC, Keithovelu Resu, delivered a motivational speech and presented records and register maintenance with suggestions to be carried out by the Legal Literacy Clubs.
The workshop was moderated by PLV Talimoa. Altogether, students of 4 schools, namely QMHSS, IHSS, MHSS and Children School, attended the workshop, out of the 5 targeted schools, in the district headquarter.
