MDTOA threatens ‘chaka bandh’

Mokokchung District Truck Owner Association (MDTOA) has threatened to launch ‘chaka bandh’ along the national highway (Mokokchung to Mariani road) if the state government fail to repair the said stretch within 30 days.
In a statement MDTOA president Sentilemba and secretary Pokyim informed that the association had submitted a representation to chief engineer PWD (NH) highlighting the issue, as the road was the lifeline for people living in Mokokchung, Tuensang and Zunheboto district. They said if the government fails to take heed of their demand, it should not be held responsible for any eventualities that may arise.
The road has been serving the three districts in various forms like public transportation and supply of essential commodities and at the same time people were dependant on this road for their livelihood, it added.
Around 500-700 trucks ply along the stretch on a daily basis which has been neglected for several years, MDTOA said adding, the condition has worsened and vehicles were unable to ply. As a result, the three important districts have been greatly affected, particularly the tuck owners as they have to bear the brunt of the trucks/vehicles which are damaged beyond repair while transporting pubic and supplies.
