A 40-hour mediation training programme for judicial officers and advocates of the state of Nagaland organised by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) under the aegis of Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC), Supreme Court of India culminated Saturday at SIRD, Kohima.
A press release by NSLSA stated that speaking at the culmination programme after handing over the certificates, OSD registrar and member secretary, MCPC, Supreme Court of India, Mezivolu T Therieh expressed the hope that mediation would be taken forward in the state in the days and years ahead with judges and advocates being trained of the process.
Therieh said that mediation was said to be movement and process and called the trainees to the movement ahead through them. She said the training had come to a successful and conclusive training, and thanked the trainers for putting efforts in providing the best and latest techniques, information and knowledge towards the Nagaland participants.
District judge and director Delhi judicial academy, Dr Aditi Chaudhury encouraged the trainees to become forerunners of mediation in the state and take it forward to become trainers of mediation not only in the state but outside the state as well.
Despite the technical curriculum of the training, Chaudhury said that the training had been successful because the participants have felt the need and importance of mediation in the society.
Sharing experience from the training, Judicial officer, Kesheli Chishi said that although, there were Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) system was present under the Constitution of India, there were many other aspects of mediation that was important to be trained and get acquainted with.
Advocate, Sunjib Rana shared that the role played by a mediator was very different from that of the one people perceive. The programme was chaired by NSLSA member secretary, Victo Sema. During the five days 40-hour mediation training, 28 Judicial Officers and advocates completed the training. The training was conducted by trainers including district judge and director Delhi Judicial Academy, Dr Aditi Chaudhury, advocate, mediator trainer, Delhi High Court, Nagina Jain, principal judge (Rtd) Delhi, Harish Dudani, and advocate mediator trainer, Delhi High Court, Jaya Goyal.
