Medical Mission Sisters (MMS), an international apostolic religious congregation founded by Sr. Dr. Anna Dengel, celebrated their centenary year with a thanksgiving programme at Chümoukedima on October 1.
The celebration was led by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, who served as the main celebrant. In his address, Bishop Thoppil lauded the Medical Mission Sisters for their dedicated service to the region and their commitment to Christ’s healing mission. He noted that their work extended beyond medical care, serving as a ministry of hope, compassion and reconciliation.
Encouraging the congregation to continue being a source of healing in a world afflicted by conflict, addiction and despair, Bishop Thoppil reminded that the Church’s mission is to serve the most vulnerable with Christ’s love. Affirming their commitment, the Medical Mission Sisters stated, “As we mark this Centenary Year, we give thanks to God for the past, commit ourselves to the present, and look forward with courage and faith to the future.” Quoting their Foundress, Mother Anna Dengel, they added, “We must adapt ourselves to the needs; the needs will not adapt themselves to us. We must never be afraid of change.”
