
Kohima District Level Coordination Committee (KDLCC) on Thursday held its first quarterly meeting on tobacco control at the Kohima Deputy Commissioner (DC)’s conference hall.
According to DIPR report, DC and chairman KDLCC, Rajesh Soundararajan, in his welcome address, pointed out the “tremendous success” on ban of tobacco with the cooperation of the various departments. He urged the officials in the district to improvise its activities to ensure a total ban of tobacco in the district.
District Nodal officer (DTCC), Dr. Arenla Walling informed the house that those schools who had received the card of ambassador are eligible to create awareness programme for the district.
In a power point presentation, she informed that three villages and four educational institutions –Gariphema village, Jotsoma and Khonoma village, Modern Institute Kohima, St. Paul Teaching Institute, Kros College and Oriental College, Kohima have been declared tobacco free.
The house deliberated on various issues including the imposition of total ban on tobacco sale in an around school areas, booking of errant shopkeepers which was entrusted to the village authorities, and organization of sensitization programme for the shopkeepers especially for the shops in school areas. Members also suggested on forming Colony Action Committees to assist the authorities in the implementation of the same.

Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima; Baptist School, Khuzama; Azedon School, Kohima; St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Viswema, Kohima; Holy Cross School, Chedema Village; Baptist Mission School, Jotsoma, Kohima; Cherry Blossom School, Kohima; Trinity School, Kohima; St. Mary Cathedral Higher Secondary School Kohima; Vikesel’s Vision School, Kohima; St. Peter’s School, Kohima; Merhulietsa High School, Kohima; Silas Memorial School, Kohima and Grace Higher Secondary School, Kohima was declared and were given certificates.
