Mega Oil palm drive held at Sovima

The Office of District Agriculture Officer (DAO) organised a Mega Oil Palm Drive at Sovima village on March 12 for interested farmers.
According to a press release from the DAO office, altogether 50 farmers attended the programme where DAO Chümoukedima, Moainla Pongen, highlighted the importance of oil palm cultivation. She pointed out that oil production from oil palm is five times higher per hectare compared to other oilseed crops, and encouraged farmers to take up oil palm farming on waste and fallow lands. She further noted that India imports nearly 60% of its cooking oil requirements, underscoring the need to boost domestic production.
Senior officer of Godrej Agrovet Ltd. (GAVL), Bendangtoshi, also spoke on the scope and present scenario of oil palm plantation in Nagaland, and delivered a presentation on propagation techniques and management of oil palm gardens. Manager, GAVL, Muthuselvan, highlighted the company’s policies and activities related to oil palm cultivation.
