In commemoration of 50th anniversary of the formation of Phek district, Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) in collaboration with all its frontal bodies, Phek district administration and other government departments would be organising a “mega tress plantation drive” on June 5, which is also “World Environment Day”.
A press release by CPO stated that the primary aim of the “mega tree plantation drive” was to plant a “significant number” of fruit trees along the highways within its jurisdiction – Sedzii to Dziilhami, Sedzii to Pfutsero, Phek to Pfutsero via Sakraba, Pfutsero to Chizami.
CPO said the 50th anniversary was not only a reminder of the progress made but also a reminder to the people of their responsibility to safeguard the natural heritage that surrounds them.
CPO has asked all the village councils along the highways to coordinate with CPO monitoring groups for the procurement of tree saplings from the distributing points, logistics and implementation, and post-event care.
Apart from the villages along the highways, CPO said all the villages under it should participate and contribute to the greening of the district by planting a minimum of fifty trees within the respective village jurisdiction under the slogan, “Fifty Trees for Fifty Years”.
Further, CPO has appealed for support and active participation of all the people of Phek district in making the “mega tree plantation drive” a resounding success.
