SHILLONG, OCT 16: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma on Friday inaugurated the state’s first High-Performance Sports Science Centre in Shillong, to strengthen sports infrastructure and support athletes through scientific training, performance assessment, and injury management.
The centre has been established in collaboration with Abhinav Futuristics, an initiative of Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, and will bring sports science, performance analytics, specialised training and rehabilitation facilities under one roof.
“Our vision is to build a strong sporting ecosystem, from grassroots talent identification to elite performance, giving our athletes the tools to compete with the best in the world. The champions of tomorrow begin with the foundations we build today,” Sangma said.
The Sports Science Centre brings together performance analytics, physical assessment, specialised training and rehabilitation services under one roof.
It is equipped with tools for biometric and biomechanical assessments, motion analysis and strength testing to help athletes and coaches identify areas for improvement. Sangma stated that the government aims to make the facility accessible to all competitive tiers, tracking athletes from grassroots talent up to elite competitors preparing for state, national, and international events.
