Preparations are underway at the Chibragre Wangala venue in Meghalaya for the 50th Golden Jubilee celebration of the Wangala Festival, with workers and members of the Wangala Committee engaged in arrangements around the clock.
The festival, traditionally celebrated with 100 drums, is expected to feature a special performance involving 1,000 drums as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The event will highlight the cultural traditions, music and dance of the Garo community.
The Wangala Festival is the harvest festival of the Garo community and is traditionally observed as a thanksgiving for a successful harvest.
It also serves as an occasion to showcase and preserve the community’s cultural heritage.
Wangala Committee Chairman Ronald Rikman said members of the organising committee were working continuously to complete preparations within the available time.
“There are many challenges before us, but the time is very limited.
Every member of the committee is working with dedication and responsibility because this is not just another festival—it is the 50th Golden Jubilee of Wangala,” Rikman said.
The organisers are expecting visitors from different parts of India and abroad for the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Arrangements are being made to provide visitors an opportunity to experience traditional Garo music, dance and other cultural performances.
“This is a historic occasion for all of us. We are working together with one goal—to make the 50th Golden Jubilee Wangala Festival a memorable celebration.
We pray to the Almighty to guide us, support us and bless our efforts,” Rikman said.
With preparations progressing at the Chibragre venue, the Golden Jubilee edition is set to bring together traditional performances and cultural activities centred on the heritage of the Garo community.
