Meghalaya recognized as ‘Best Performing’State in Verification of Adult Aadhaar Enrolment

CorrespondentShillong, Oct 14

Meghalaya has been recognized as the ‘Best Performing’ State in Verification of Adult Aadhaar Enrolment at the national level, an official said on Tuesday.
The award was formally received on behalf of the State by Aadhaar Nodal Officer, General Administration Department (B), Shai Kupar War, during the Aadhaar Samvaad event held to mark the inaugural Aadhaar Day at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre recently.
Commissioner & Secretary and State Aadhaar Nodal Officer, Dr. Joram Beda, congratulated the team, stating: “Meghalaya’s recognition as the Best Performing State is the result of the collective dedication and hard work of our Deputy Commissioners, Block Development Officers, in particular the District Supervisors, and Operators, alongside the seamless coordination by General Administration Department (B).”
“This achievement reflects our deep commitment to inclusive and transparent service delivery. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the officials of the UIDAI Regional Office for their invaluable guidance, unwavering support, and handholding throughout this journey,” he said.
This prestigious recognition highlights Meghalaya’s commitment to ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient Aadhaar enrolment for all its citizens.
“This milestone stems from a reform adopted by Meghalaya in May 2023, under which the State began verifying all new adult Aadhaar enrolment requests linked to Meghalaya, regardless of where they were generated across the country,” he said.
Every enrolment packet containing a Meghalaya proof of address is automatically routed to the respective district and sub-district, where it is verified by the designated official through the State Government portal.
He said this system has improved accuracy, strengthened public trust, and greatly reduced the risk of fraud and misuse, thereby creating a safer and more reliable Aadhaar ecosystem for citizens.
The General Administration Department (B) has played a pivotal role in coordinating district-level efforts, monitoring progress, and ensuring seamless execution of the verification process, Beda said.
This citizen-centric approach has positioned Meghalaya as a model state for Aadhaar-related service delivery.
