Meisen from Nagaland wins NID’s top award

Meisen Jamir, daughter of Tali Jamir (Chuchuyimlang), resident of Kohima, bagged the ‘Outstanding Graduation Project’ Shanta Keshavan and N Keshavan Endowment Award on the occasion of the 43rd convocation of India’s top design institute– National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad for her project titled “Ladakh Diaries”.


Pramod Varma, former Chief Architect of India’s digital identity program Aadhaar and UPI, presented the awards. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh. The coveted award instituted in the year 2017 is given to the best graduation project which demonstrate an outstanding degree of ideation, innovation and execution.


As per the jury, Meisen’s project “identified and utilized the local symbolism of Ladakh innovatively in a contemporary living space while retaining the symbols’ original identity and translating their relevance through her textile skills.” The design elements derived from local flora and fauna were beautifully translated using textile design methods resulting in visually striking outcomes. Her unique approach leads seamlessly to the final range of products, the jury said.
